TEXTURISED VEGETABLE PROTEIN AND MEAL
By-products from the crushing and refining process are produced and are suitable for human consumption including animal feeds products. At Nedan three main product categories are manufactured and marketed.
Texturised Vegetable Protein (TVP)
These are suitable for human consumption and used in applications which span the retail sector, school nutrition programmes and the butchery trade. TVP is available in various particle sizes with the necessary applications as a guide, shown below. It is available as coloured, uncoloured or in pink.
High-protein defatted soya flour
This product is a natural result of the oil extraction process and comprises dehulled protein. The product is sold extensively into the bakery trade.

Soya oil cake
This derivative is primarily used as a nutritional additive to animal feeds. The Nedan soya oil cake is sold under the Promax brand-name and widely distributed across South Africa.
OILS
The Nedan crushing and extraction plant processes raw materials into oils utilised in the industrial, food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
We specialise in the following oils:
- Soya oil
- Palm oil
- Sunflower oil
- Cotton oil
Oil is available in bulk – provided and delivered to clients in a tanker, which facilitates easy transfer directly to holding tanks.

NEDAN Oils and Proteins is an oilseed processing facility with operations based in Mokopane, Limpopo. Operations include Solvent Extraction, Extrusion and Packing.
In the Solvent Extraction plant, the primary raw material (soya beans) are processed into:
- A high protein soya oil cake (animal feed ingredient); or
- A high protein soya meal; and
- Soya bean oil.
In the Extrusion facility the high protein soya oil meal is processed into texturised vegetable protein, a meat extender/replacer and vegetarian offering.
NEDAN has substantial processing capacity:
- Extraction 255 000 metric tonnes soya beans processed
- Extrusion 37 200 metric tonnes textured product

Nedan has been in business for more than three decades in its FSSC 22000 certified facility and is also Halaal and Kosher Certified.
FOOD SAFETY, QUALITY AND CERTIFICATION
At NEDAN, all specifications relating to product quality are strenuously adhered to. Food safety is a top priority and therefore we have been certified against the GFSI recognised, FSSC 22000 standard requirements and independently audited by the certification body Aspirata.
The business furthermore adheres to and successfully maintain customer certification requirements such as Kosher and Halaal.
Additional to food safety certification, NEDAN is proud to announce compliance and certification in terms of the farm feed registration act 36, which allows the business to import or sell products under the Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act, 1947 (Act 36 of 1947).
